Preliminary Steps

This series of posts are going to walk you through the installation of SharePoint 2007. These are actually my notes on how to install and therefore include no extra notes. These are primarily installation notes that I have been using for single server installation. If you have any questions or need further explanations, please comment below.

Install Virtual PC with Windows 2003 Server

  • Download FREE Virtual PC 2007 (VPC) and install
  • Create a VPC image with an 30 GB dynamic hard drive
  • Windows 2003 Server installed and updated with Service Pack 2
  • Now that you have a base image of Windows 2003 Server installed with Service Pack 2.
  • Run Windows Update and install all the security updates.

Extend Windows 2003 Server

Install SQL Server 2005 and Office 2007

Optimize Virtual PC

SharePoint 2007 Installation

  • Install SharePoint 2007 using advanced installation options and select a complete install.
  • Run the SharePoint Configuration Wizard once the installation is complete
  1. Allow services to be restarted on prompt: Yes
  2. Connect to a server farm: Create a new server farm
  3. Specify Configuration Database Settings – specify appropriate SQL database settings
    • Database server – < pc_name >
    • Database name – SharePoint_Config
    • Username -< pc_name >\SPSQLAcct
    • Password – < spsqlacct_password>
  4. Configure SharePoint Central Administration Web Application
    • Specify Port Number: 3333 [Central Admin URL becomes http://< pc_name >:3333/]
    • Authentication Provider: NTLM
  5. Click Finish to complete configuration.
