Continuing on with My SharePoint Installation Guide series. If you have missed the first, then check My SharePoint Installation Guide - Preliminary Steps. This post is the 2nd in the series, and walks you through a simple configuration of the SharePoint Services.

• Launch SharePoint Central Administration Web Application [http://< pc_name >:3333/]
• Operations page - click on Services on server within the Topology and Services section.
  Plan: Start all services that have the following comment: Required on Farm, not running:
• Click on Start for Windows SharePoint Services Search and fill in the following information:
  • SYNOPSIS – Enter in account credentials and set daily schedule
  • Service Account Username: < pc_name >\Administrator with accompanying password [WAPWD]
  • Content Access Account: < pc_name >\Administrator [WAPWD]
  • Database Server: < pc_name >  Database Name: leave default (WSS_Search_ < pc_name >)
  • Database Authentication: Windows Authentication
  • Indexing Schedule: Daily 12AM – 1AM
• Click on Start for Office SharePoint Server Search
  • Use this server for indexing content: Select
  • Use this server for serving search queries: Select
  • Email Address: Farm Search Service Account User Name: < pc_name >\Administrator [WAPWD]
  • Indexer Performance: Reduced
  • Web Front End and Crawling: Use all web front end computers for crawling
  • Click on Start for Excel Calculation Services
