Its been an interesting week.  I decided to finally purchase my own laptop.  Being the picky person I am, I decided it’d be great to purchase a new laptop for SharePoint Development. 

Twittering To the Rescue

I twittered my thoughts and had a dozen or so responses on what everyone thought was the best laptop for SharePoint Development.  Quite a few laptops were recommended: dell xps, thinkpad x300, thinkpad t61p or MacBook pro by everyone from @richfinn, @JDWade, @Gadgetfiles to @jwmiller5.  Thank you to everyone.  If you have not realized the importance of a community, this should be a great example.

Delivery Takes Too Long

After a full day of research, I decided on purchasing the Dell XPS M1530 for roughly $2500 (which including the slot load blue ray device).  I was excited and couldn’t wait to receive.  This was quite a deal since it was cheaper to get the blue ray device then a DVD drive.

After finding out that it would not be until late 2nd or early 3rd week of July that I would receive my laptop, I quickly cancelled my order.  10 days is way too much time.  It just makes more sense to walk into an Apple store and purchase it.  Or if you would like, buy the laptop online and get it delivered within 5 business days.

Proud Owner

I had purchased a MacBook 13 inch laptop for my wife 4 years ago.  Even though we had no warranty, she never had any problems with it.  I decided that maybe it was time for me to not worry too much about the bottom dollar and buy the best laptop I could purchase.  I then walked into Yorkdale Apple Store and purchased an Apple MacBook Pro 17″ (2.6GHz, 4GB Ram, 200GB @ 7200rpm, screen resolution maxed out @ 1920×1200). 

My Vista Experience score is 5.1 :D

All thanks to the Apple MacBook Pro. I have made the switch and am happy to know that others before me have had no problems either.  I used Spence Harbar’s guide to triple boot my MacBook Pro into Mac OS X, Vista Ultimate and Windows Server 2008.  Who else has made the switch, well here is my list:

Quick Tip - Print Screen alternate

I could not find the Print Screen button on my MacBook Pro, after searching find my saviour.  The free included utility: Snipping Tool (to launch: Click Start -> type in Search textbox -> Snipping Tool)  Thank you Microsoft!
