SharePoint 2010 UPDATE: Microsoft has just announced the SharePoint 2009 14 Conference in Las Vegas! Many of us are still trying to master SharePoint 2007 (version 12) but that does not mean we don't want to know what Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 (version 14) will bring.

We have a feeling the next version might be called Microsoft Office SharePoint 2010, primarily because of the image on the right :).  Regardless of the name of SharePoint vNext, what's more important to customers, consultants and users is what features are going to be added, updated and removed. After viewing many blog posts, here is a synposis of the features SharePoint 14 might have:
    • SharePoint Web Parts for FAST ESP but better integration and bigger
    • The server software will be announced as 64 bit only
    • Silverlight Media web parts
    • Better accessibility and cleaner code generation
    • Backup/Restore/Rollback and Snapshot backups with virtual load balancing  Near automated build and replace
    • Claims-based authentication
    • Possible inclusion of InfoPath style web-based editor - since Office 14 is allowing for some applications to be web-based with limited functionality.  Why not integrate some of those into SharePoint vNext
    • SQL tables-like behaviour for SharePoint lists
    • Custom filters won't be necessary to index and extract metadata from ODF and PDF files
    • JQuery and SharePoint vNext

What features do you think will be part of Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010?  Respond by commenting below.

I'm hoping for better analysis tools for visitors to the sites. I currently use MOSS 2007 to create Virtual Learning Environments for schools, so I would like to see improvements to the customisation of MySite.

To me they would nail it if you could actually publish the data conns and logic in Infopath to a MOSS server and make it easier to use LoB data inside MOSS. Thier BDC system is not very friendly.

I would like see Facet search functionality integrated, better tools for managing the Forms based authenticated users & groups. Fix up the small issues like deleting of any web no option to take back to parent site and avoid generic messages like "ContentType is in Use." rather tell where it got used.
