SharePoint 2007 Service Pack 2 Required for 2010 Upgrade

One piece of the Service Pack 2 for 2007 Microsoft Office System due April 28th announcement from the Microsoft Update Blog is the information on the STSADM upgrade scanning tool. The Office Sustained Engineering Team Blog preannounced this Service Pack back in October. That post and this update are a part of their effort “to increase transparency and visibility into the Office servicing model at the request of our customers.”

Thanks to Joel for pointing out that installing SP2 and running the scan option from STSADM should be a prerequisite for upgrades to SharePoint 2010.

This scanning news is directly related to previously reported Windows SharePoint Services 4.0 breaking changes. When thinking about the upgrade, remember to avoid custom list views, custom field types and using custom CAML, Custom Workflow Actions stored in the file WSS.ACTIONS and manual Web.config file changes. Look for more on the Large List scanning in SP2.
