Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 - Official name of SharePoint 14

If you haven't read, the Microsoft SharePoint Team officially blogged / announced that the Official Name of Microsoft SharePoint “14” [Press Pass]is now Microsoft SharePoint 2010.

Why not Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2010?

It's not that MOSS was a bad term but because customers were getting confused.

Let's hear it straight from Microsoft SharePoint Team:

The primary reason why we took Office out of the name - lots of folks associate the name Office with the Office client. We wanted to take the opportunity to reestablish the Office name and brand to be synonymous with the client suite. I say “Give the people what they Want” so everyone should immediately think of Microsoft Office = Office apps.

This doesn't mean that Microsoft SharePoint 2010 will not have tight integration with Microsoft Office 2010 or previous versions of SharePoint, it'll just get good, better, best, awesome!
