Thankfully, there is a workaround.  The workaround revolves around using ORCA msi editor to remove two CustomActions (X64System & WssNotInstalled) from the VSeWSSv12.msi file.

Just wanted to post this information so more developers are able to use which ever development they prefer.  

I am also provided the modified version of Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Tools: Visual Studio 2008 Extensions v1.2.  

It’s just the VSeWSSv12.exe file modified. Extract all files from VseWSSv12×86.zip to your desktop and run the VSeWSSv12.msi file.

I’d go so far as breaking up the Large versions: Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services (WSS 3.0) and Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS 2007) into two separate versions.  WSS 3.0 should be called Large and MOSS should be called Gigantic!  Would you agree with that?

Tagged Links - Free Social Bookmarking for SharePoint!

Assumption: Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 (VHD) is installed and configured.

1. Deploy / install Microsoft Project Server 2007
2. Run SharePoint Configuration Wizard (this should run automatically after installing Project Server 2007)
3. Browse to Create Project Web Access Instances (http://server_name:xxxxx/ssp/admin/_layouts/managepwa.aspx) or SharePoint Central Administration -> Shared Services Adminstration -> Project Server -> Project Web Access Sites
   1. You might get the following error message, The Project Application Service doesn’t exist or is stopped, if the installer did not have the right permissions to start the Project Application Service.  The following command line will get the service started correctly when run as the administrator:stsadm -o provisionservice -action start -servicetype “Microsoft.Office.Project.Server.Administration.ProjectApplicationService, Microsoft.Office.Project.Server.Administration, Version=12.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71E9BCE111E9429C” -servicename ProjectApplicationService
4. In the Manage Project Web Access Sites page, click on Create Project Web Access Site
5. Remember the Project Web Access path, this will be your URL suffix to whichever SharePoint Web Application that hosts your Project Web Access Site
6. Enter in the Primary Database Server and click Ok
7. Watch the Status field in Manage Project Web Access Sites
8. Once the status changes to Provisioned, you can browse to your Project Web Access site (http://server_name/pwa)
